The Early 1980′s

This web page presents photographic evidence and additional information regarding some of the incredible adventures of Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies during the early 1980’s. We hope you will enjoy learning more about the band.

The individual members of the Babies are humble by nature and are quick to concede that during all of their adventures, they have always acted with the best interests of others in mind. In retrospect, the Babies are proud of their contributions to our society and the positive impact they have had upon popular American culture and the greater world order.

ARSJB extends its thanks to the The Babies extend their thanks to the Dr. Leonard P. Fitzgerald Library of the Americas – Columbia University, the Frank J. Zamboni Co., the Grand General Ryan J. Gould Estate, and the Library of Congress for the use of this information.

Immensely popular in the Far East, the innovative Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies Big Top Circus Adventures video game for the Atari 2800 was the first video game that featured the Babies and for its time, was considered a groundbreaking technological achievement. This educational action-packed game incorporates certain elements of the Babies’ travels with a famous Eastern European circus troupe to teach the laws of physics to children. In this game, players can select to be any of the Babies or the Babies’ friends, such as Jim Ivy from the Jinxstreet Band as shown on the cover, to engage in battle with armadas of wild, exotic, man-eating animals and blood thirsty communist dictators.

In the days prior to the company’s purchase by General Mills, Henry W. Ralston from the Ralston-Purina company featured Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies on Ralston’s Cookie Crisp breakfast cereal product line being delivered to the United Kingdom and South Africa. This single act bolstered product sales so significantly that General Mills immediately moved to purchase the cereal company. The positive impact of the Babies upon the development of children has been the object of study by psychologists for decades. Although not fully understood, they credit the Babies with the uncanny natural ability to communicate all types of ideas with all creatures of the Earth, using only music.

George Lucas once considered the possibility of using the Boater as the hat of choice for the Indiana Jones character in the famous movie of the same name. Once only a rumor, this never before published pre-production costume research photograph was obtained through the Babies’ secrete high-level Australian data source. George’s preference for the color white, the historic embodiment of “good”, is clearly evident in the photograph. Advertising and marketing executives for the movie production company immediately perceived the marketing nightmare and image problems they would face when this image was publicly contrasted to the immediately recognizable image of Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies and persuaded George Lucas that a brown fedora would be a more appropriate hat for Indiana Jones to wear.

After his encounter with his Advertising and Marketing department regarding the selection of Indiana Jones’ hat (see above), George Lucas realized that the Indiana Jones movie would become immensely popular and profitable if he were to incorporate the Babies images into the movie, even if the movie was otherwise free of content. George instructed his special effects staff to modify the historical artifacts shown in the movie to embody the features of the individual Babies and the Babies’ friends. As can be seen in this photograph, this demigod artifact bears a striking resemblance to Frank Lee Devine. The movie production legal department later realized that the Babies’ permission regarding the use of their images had never been sought by George Lucas, which could have catastrophic financial results for the movie production company–especially in consideration for the groundbreaking work the Babies’ have done over the years regarding the cessation of historical artifact poaching from third world countries. The legal department instructed George Lucas to remove the Babies’ images from the Indiana Jones movie and replace them with the unidentifiable images presently shown in the movie.

This rare photograph of Sidney Bechet and Tartan Purry was initially employed in a PBS documentary concerning Sidney Bechet in the early 1980s. In researching for additional information regarding Tartan Purry, the film’s producers were unable to reconcile Tartan’s actual age in comparison to his youthful vigor and General Ryan Gould’s reported discovery of the Fountain of Youth. The producers mysteriously decided to consult with the U. S. Government to learn the “truth” concerning this matter. The film’s producers were encouraged by FBI investigators and the National Security Administration to remove Tartan Purry from the photograph before incorporation into the documentary on the basis of national security concerns and mass pandemonium that would result were the truth made public. Simultaneously to the film producer’s inquiry, the U. S. Government reasoned that with this recent development in their unending search for the Babies, the possibility of the Babies’ capture was high. Using information gathered from the film producers, the Government initiated a massive unofficial government manhunt for the Babies which culminated in the U. S. led invasion of Grenada and additional military activities in Panama. The Babies remained in hiding for several years afterward as they have sometimes had to do in such circumstances.

Professor Joseph Cordi at Paramount Iceland ice rink, Paramount, California, circa 1985. At the specific request of the ailing Frank J. Zamboni, Professor Joseph Cordi piloted a Zamboni vehicle in a ceremonious tour around the Paramount Iceland ice rink to give spectators a close up look at the special guest wizard behind the Paramount Iceland’s legendary Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. A special concert in three movements which has never been repeated, Professor Cordi payed homage to figure skating greats Sonja Henie and Peggy Fleming, the original and creative thinking of Frank Zamboni, and the champion skaters of tomorrow. In a touching and heartfelt address to the public, Frank Zamboni thanked Professor Cordi and the rest of the Babies for playing family oriented music that is natural for skating and socializing and then ceremoniously named a litter of border collie pups recently born at the Zamboni Estate after the Babies.

Pictured from left to right are Tartan Purry and David Hasselhoff, in Hollywood, California, circa 1981. During the filming of “On Golden Pond” and at the request of author Ernest Thompson, Tartan Purry provided such fundamental insights into the Norman Thayer character that the author completely trusted Tartan to personally coach both Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn regarding the development of the Norman Thayer character. Naturally, news of Tartan’s coaching talents and character insights quickly spread through Hollywood and an ambitious David Hasselhoff yearned to meet Tartan Purry. Taking advantage of a break in the filming of the television series “Knight Rider”, David borrowed the “K.I.T.T.” vehicle and traveled to the “On Golden Pond” sound stage to seek out Tartan’s advice to improve his appeal to women. In the photograph, David is shown practicing what would become one of his trademark physical stances, as taught to him by Tartan Purry. In the years since their meeting, David has employed Tartan’s guidance and became popular with the “Baywatch” television series and in Germany as a pop musician.

Pictured is special guest Baby J. D. “Mr. Huggie” Pendley, at the KRTZ Radio Station, Studio 3C, near Cleveland, Ohio, circa 1983. Studio 3C has hosted such talented musicians as Fats Waller, Bob Wills, Sydney Bechet, and others, but had fallen out of favor with musicians during the 1970’s after various remodeling attempts to improve upon the room’s originally constructed sound had failed. Early in 1983, KRTZ personnel contracted with J. D., whose natural ear for music is unparalleled, to help restore the sound of their room to its original luster. Note that J. D. is wearing the stunning Versace French Beret Hot Dog Hat which was custom made for the members of the Giant City Sextet (see also the Film, Arts, and Awards Pictures of Interest on this web site).

This photograph, taken from the pages of “20 Years of Hollywood’s Cosmetology Secrets – 1960-1980″, published in 1982 by Victoria Swift, shows a secrete and experimental hair styling technique pioneered by the Star Wars production staff during the filming of the now famous epic. The author’s notes indicate that the actors were instructed to don the Boater hat for shade purposes in order to keep the cosmetology technique a secret. The book reveals that George Lucas was fascinated with learning how the Babies were so joyous when performing such that the entire audience shared in their joy, and then contributed their own joy as a result. George believed (erroneously) that the Boater hat somehow contributed to this phenomenon and tasked his production staff with finding a way to include the hat in the space epic to help improve the film. The cosmetology department discovered that the Boater hat was useful for a specific hair styling procedure that was implemented for the leading male characters in the film. George Lucas reportedly instructed his staff to maintain this styling technique secrete in order to secure future Hollywood film contracts.

Developed with the Babies, the base form of this advertisement for the Tempur-Pedic Company circa 1984 has become the mainstay for the Swedish mattress manufacturer. The company discontinued specifically employing the Babies name and Boater hat in their advertising scheme approximately 3 years after this advertisement was distributed among the Pacific Rim nations. The Babies have always enjoyed the opportunity to sleep on the beds supplied by the Tempur-Pedic Company and look forward to working with this mattress manufacturer in the future.

Pictured is the secret Isle de Babes, also known as Jazz Babies Island, circa 1984. Over the years the Babies have often lived on this remote mountainous retreat and enjoy fishing in its fish-filled waters. For reasons of Babies’ Security, the exact location of Jazz Babies Island cannot be revealed. William Marston of D. C. Comics was accompanying the Babies early in 1938 when the traveling Babies visited the island in an emergency to circumvent a pack of patrolling Nazi U. Boats. After seeing a few of the numerous beautiful ladies that inhabit the isle, Marston would later use Jazz Babies Island as the basis of “Paradise Island” in his 1941 release of the “Wonderwoman” comic strip.

Diver Marie Fountain from the “Calypso”, the famous Jacques Cousteau exploration ship, near the Bermuda Triangle, circa 1980. The “Calypso” had anchored near various wrecked ships that the crew believed were sunken Allied tankers and cargo ships from World War II. The crew believed that one of the cargo ships was the “Miss Antoinette” that was rumored to have been carrying the Babies when it was sunk by Nazi U. Boats in 1938. The Babies have always maintained that they were aboard the “Miss Antoinette” when it was sunk, but indicate the year of the sinking was 1939, and while the Babies were captured by the Nazis at that time, they later escaped from them in Portugal. The photograph was taken after Marie had accidentally dropped Frank Lee Devine’s lost Boater during her ascent to the Calypso. The Babies hope that someday the written historical records concerning this matter will be revised to reflect the insight and personal testimony provided by the Babies to the United States Government.

Frank Lee Devine in the Serengeti Desert, circa 1982, negotiating temporary living arrangements and territorial boundaries for the Babies with lions tagged “Alpha-212″ and “Alpha-212A” of the Molange clan. In their unauthorized autobiography, Siegfried and Roy indicate that they were inspired to become animal trainers and activists by watching documentary films of Frank Lee Devine communicating with wild African lions to facilitate the Babies African Continent crossing during World War I. While not common public knowledge, Frank has contributed greatly to the study of lions psychology and social structure and has often published the results of his investigations under a pseudonym.
